For Those Who Like Immediate Gratification

What is the Difference Between Fraxel Restore and the new Fraxel Restore Dual?

Thank you Dr Persky in California... he is my Fraxel Guru.... and if you are in New York.... see Dr David Bank in Mt Kisco

Fraxel restore is the original Fraxel laser product, a fractionated Erbium laser that works at 1550 nanometer wavelength. It is non-ablative, heats the skin in pixilated columns that results in collagen stimulation over time, resulting in improvement of fine to moderate lines and wrinkles, and improvement in skin pigmentation (as well as tone and texture). The older Fraxel restore required a series of treatments (4-6) separated by about 2 to 3 weeks. The Dual's 1550 has been modified to be faster, more effective, and more comfortable than the prior Fraxel re:store laser. Usually patients will require 3 instead of 4 treatments with this laser as compared to the previous version. It is also effective for the treatment of acne, traumatic, and surgical scars.

Fraxel Dual laser adds another laser to the restore laser. The new wavelength is 1927 nanometers; it is a Thulium laser (say that a few times in a row). 1927nm is very specific and effective at treating brown pigment including sun damage lentigines (sun spots), aging spots, and studies are being conducted for the treatment of melasma. In a single treatment, remarkable clearance of pigment occurs within 7 to 10 days. The treatment is very tolerable, either with or without numbing cream. The face as well as the entire body can be treated. Unlike IPL treatments, usually 1 to 2 treatments are all that are necessary for fresh rosy skin.

Dr. Persky is proud to be the first facial plastic surgeon in Southern California to offer his patients all of the available Fraxel laser platforms including Fraxel restore Dual and Fraxel repair.

Update on Protandim

Protandim is the only supplement clinically proven to reduce oxidative stress by an average 40%, slowing down the cell aging process to the level of a 20 year-old.* While conventional or direct antioxidants can neutralize only one free radical molecule, Protandim triggers the creation of enzymes that can each eliminate over a million free radical molecules per second without being used up.

What does this mean?  If we can't see it on the outside do we really know what is happening on the inside?
I had 2 bottles... a 60 day supply of Protandim and started to take it in September.  By October, my fingernails were so strong and amazing that my manicures lasted for 2 weeks. My nails were growing at a stellar rate and they were so strong that they had to be cut with a clipper because they were too tough to file down. My hair was growing so fast that my bangs had to be cut frequently.  OK.... I ran out of Protandim and did not buy more.... until today. My nails have all broken and split. I would not even bother with polish because my nails are just so bad!  My hair lacks body and brilliance....So, if this is what I see on the outside, I can only imagine what is doing on my insides. For more info, follow the link.  Try it and watch what happens!

Back From Surgery

For all that were wondering where I have been, I had spinal fusion in July. My words of advise to anyone having surgery... GO TO A SPECIALIST WHO IS EXPERIENCED!!! Make sure your doctor knows who you are and that you are not a chart or a number. Be in charge of your own body! Your doctor sometimes sees 40 people in a day and you are not always remembered. When you call a doctors office... make sure who ever answers the phone, puts that call down in your chart!
So, I AM BACK!!! I have lots of great news to share so stay tuned and enjoy!

How To Look Good When You Have A Cold

We all know someone who has this terrible N1H1 Flu..... when you get through the worst of it and need to look in the mirror and pick your self up...here is a tip from www.DailyMakeover.com .
Follow these tips from makeup guru Bobbi Brown to look healthy, well and rested.

Double up on moisturizer
Sick skin means a dry, dull complexion. For an instant fix, Brown advises wearing two moisturizers at once. Apply a lightweight hydrating cream first, then layer on a rich balm. We like: Neutrogena Oil-Free Fresh Ultra-Light Moisturizer and DeclĂ©or Aromessence Essential Balm. "This combination smoothes and plumps skin, leaving it luminous and fresh," says Brown. Be sure to down plenty of water— it will keep you and your skin hydrated.

Use concealer to hide a sleepless night
If you were up all night coughing, fake a restful night's sleep by using a yellow-based concealer to neutralize any redness or darkness under your eyes. We like: Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Creamy Concealer Kit. Use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your foundation then layer on a yellow-toned powder on top. If you are porcelain pale, use a white-toned powder—yellow tones look unnatural on super-pale skin.

Stick to the makeup basics
The last thing you want to do when you’re feeling ill is apply a full-on face of makeup. Skip the excess cosmetics and just do the basics. Brown recommends spot-applying foundation to camouflage a red nose and swiping a peachy blush on the apples of your cheeks to fake a healthy flush. Finish off with a quick coat of mascara and a touch of gloss for a healthy and polished look.

Protandim...Clinically Proven To Trigger Your Own Body To Fight Oxidative Stress

Surprisingly, scientific studies show that your body can’t possibly ingest enough antioxidants to eliminate the number of free radicals your body makes every day. You would need to eat ridiculous amounts of foods rich in antioxidants (32 pounds of strawberries, 31 pounds of raspberries, 15 pounds of dark chocolate per day for example), to achieve the antioxidant power you get from one Protandim caplet each day.
When you take Protandim, you trigger what your body already knows how to do, only better. You ‘tell’ your body to increase production of its own two antioxidant enzymes, which helps prevent free radical damage to your cells thousands of times more effectively than any conventional antioxidant therapy. Healthier cells mean a healthier immune system, and decreased chance of disease as you age.ail.yahoo.com/ya/securedownload?&fid=Inbox&mid=1_7167_AJ0mvs4AAKwxSfMl3wCUwEQUIio&pid=3&tnef=&prefFilename=PERLMUTTER+PROTANDIM.mht&cred=IShaEuGG_ppg7i0Z1HQ8OmIHw.2EspB0.DhPcxXwPwJt5MV7NEBme4D5bupfJPMfCPI1MJ1EkTPh_Smy.ulw.ZciTmRb__ixZ8YDEJzlshA9trS69sjjKRARwcUB2LuULdPc6GBXlyUpNLFARQ--&ts=1241205168&partner=ymail&sig=No90hSLTreJpqsZmsZhdcg--

Dip In Your Sex Drive?

From the New York Times Personal Health 3/31/2009
Menopause effects our desire for sex and the ability to enjoy it. With 1/3 of our lives ahead of us, but with little to none of the hormones that fostered a robust sex life, many experience diminished or absent sexual desire, difficulty becoming aroused or achieving orgasm, and sometimes pain during sex.
In the book "Is It Hot In Here or Is It Me?" the writers say "You're not in the mood alot of the time. Most nights, you just wish your partner would roll over and go to sleep.
Although estrogen is our predominant hormone before menopause, testosterone, is considered the libido hormone for both men and women.
What Can We Do?
If you are more concerned about reviving your sex life than a possible increased risk of hormone-induced cancer or heart disease, the drug Estratest, which combines estrogen and testosterone, may solve the problem. Ask your doctor for more information.

Trimming Hair Costs

American women are cutting back on a lot these days, but for women over 35, professional hair care is a hard habit to break, according to a recent survey for the National Retail Federation.
"You can go without a new blouse, but your hair you look at every day. And if it looks good, you feel good about yourself. That's so important when you're going to work, and especially if you're looking for work,'' she says.
Still, clients are asking for her help to save a few bucks without sacrificing style. The big question: "What's going to make me look good for the longest period of time?'' Here's what she tells them:
Condition, condition
Get a conditioner that's right for your hair, and use it faithfully. Hair that's in good shape, depending on the style, can go longer between trims.
Hide those roots
Rather than a single hair color, Brinson suggests multiple, "dimensional" shades so new growth isn't so obvious. Layering the hair helps give it lift so new roots are obscured. And ask your stylist to recommend color sticks you can use to camouflage the gray before your next touch-up.
If you're a brunette and insist on platinum blond, realize that the maintenance is going to cost you. And vice versa: White hair dyed dark is going to show those telltale sparkles quickly.
If you can carry it off, long hair that's all one length will mean fewer haircuts. "But," Brinson cautions, "you've got to have that perfect oval face to carry that off." Next best: shoulder-length hair. Short hair needs the most frequent cuts, but it'll save you time every day on styling, which may be worth it to you.
Confide in your stylist
You tell her everything else -- why not say you need to watch your budget? "I tell people, 'Let's get you into a little bob or layers, something simple to do, and you don't have to come so often,' " Brinson says. And she never minds if a client leaves with wet hair rather than paying for a blow-dry.
Whatever you do, don't cut your own bangs, says Brinson, who will trim her clients' bangs for free between regular cuts. "It's better for me if they come back rather than doing it themselves and messing it up. That's my signature on their head!"

Stress and Aging....

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, ILL. — Results of a recent study suggest that certain stress-inducing life events or the use of antidepressants — and not necessarily genetic make-up — are the true culprits that can cause facial wrinkles and add years to a person’s perceived age, reports Medical News Today. The study was published recently on the Web-based version of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the Arlington Heights-based American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
The study looked at identical twins because they are genetically programmed to age at the same rate. Researchers obtained completed questionnaires and digital images from 186 pairs of identical twins. The images were reviewed by an independent panel, which then recorded the perceived age difference between the siblings.
Results showed that twins who had gone through divorce appeared nearly two years older than their siblings who were married, single or widowed. In addition, use of antidepressants use was associated with a significantly older appearance. (The researchers suspect that continued relaxation of the facial muscles due to antidepressant use could account for sagging.) Weight factors also played a role: In those sets of twins who were less than 40 years old, the heavier twin was perceived as being older, while in those groups over 40, the heavier twin appeared younger.
The researchers say their findings are important for two reasons: (1) Identifying factors that contribute to aging and (2) Associating scientific data with with relationship between volume replacement and facial rejuvenation. CST

If The Price Is To Good To Be True....

In 2008, more than 40 percent of facial plastic surgeons treated patients who suffered complications from surgeries gone awry that had been performed abroad. Another alarming finding revealed 74 percent of facial plastic surgeons were aware of medical directors (physicians) of medispa businesses who were not onsite performing, or even overseeing, the medical treatments in the U.S. The most commonly reported complications associated with non-physician administration of injectable fillers and/or lasers included burns, asymmetrical results or misplaced fillers, and granulomas, clumping which occurs when particles form lumps that can be seen and felt beneath the skin.During the economy's downturn, there are countless non-specialists marketing their services and treatments at a lower cost or rate, or providing misinformation. More than half of all surgeons surveyed found advertising associated with specific injectable fillers, lasers and/or other cosmetic treatments to be deceptive. Many non-medical personnel have entered the arena of cosmetic treatments, and the buyer needs to beware. If an advertisement for a cosmetic procedure appears to be too good to be true, it may be. The AAFPRS urges all patients to be careful before proceeding with any significantly discounted cosmetic procedures....from Medical News Today.

Stretch Out The Time Between Hair Color

A straight part like Amanda Bynes' makes root growth more obvious. If you dye your hair, then you're all too familiar with the 4-6 week root maintenance schedule required to keep your overall color under control. Here are a few sneaky ways to extend the time between root touch-ups and save some cash. • First, try switching your part from being perfectly straight to making it more of a haphazard zigzag part. This will blur the line of your dark roots and make your color look more blended• Try using colored mascara or a pinch of loose eye shadow to cover up roots that are lighter than the rest of your hair. This will also work to cover up grays. • The newest at-home root touch-up kits are pretty easy. Make sure it is designed specifically for root touch ups (it will call this out on the box) and follow the directions carefully. Our favorite: Marc Anthony Pro Root Touch-Up.
http://www.dailymakeover.com/beauty_tips/hair/how_to_stretch_out_your_color_job
I tried the root touch up. IT IS FABULOUS. (My husband did the back of my head really well....and he not 'handy')

IMPORTANT: Those using it should BE SURE to do the test that they suggest on package, which is to pull a few hairs out and put some product on the root and time it. THEY SAY to keep it on for 10-15 MINUTES. I discovered that keeping it on only that long DID NOT WORK. I kept it on for 40 MINUTES--and it worked beautifully. One of my friends tried it and said it did not cover. THAT is because she followed their directions (10-15 min.)

I just saved $150!! Yippee

Best Filler.... It depends

Anil R. Shah, MD from Chicago states "There are many factors which account for the best facial filler for you including your skin thickness, area intended to be injected, etc. Each filler has its risks and benefits. Generally speaking the safest fillers on the market are the hyaluronic acid derivatives and radiesse. They have an extensive history of use and when used properly by an experienced injector have little to no problems. Be cautious with the latest and greatest filler until its safety profile has been examined. A common saying is a permanent filler is a permanent problem. "

Bags Under The Eyes... Oh My...

It turns out that as we age, we tend to accumulate more fat in that area, which can be removed only by cosmetic surgery. What happens is that the orbital fat surrounding the eyeball increases with age and then pushes the lower eyelid forward," says Dr. Sean Darcy of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a plastic surgery resident at the University of California in Irvine. "The fat has nowhere else to go."If fat makes the lower eyelids puffy, wouldn't losing weight help?
Apparently not. Autopsies on people who died of starvation show that they have the same amount of orbital fat as people of normal weight.
"For some reason orbital fat is different," Darcy says. "You need that orbital fat to keep the eye lubricated and to provide support for the eyeball in the bony orbit. It makes sense that the body maintains the fat there even when the fat from the rest of the body is gone. That's why you only want to remove the fat that increases with age. If you keep going you'll disrupt the muscles in the bony orbit."
Can anything be done short of cosmetic surgery to reduce the size of bags under the eyes?
According to Darcy, some people use the hemorrhoid treatment Preparation H on their eyelids.
"It's a vasoconstrictor," he says, "and it does help some people in terms of relieving some of the edema or fluid accumulation around the eyelid. A lot of actresses use that to minimize the tired look they get overnight. In Southern California you hear about remedies like that."

Tips For Faster Hair Growth

So you’re eating a good diet and exercising regularly but your hair is still only growing 1cm a month? Try incorporating the following methods into your routine, and you may experience an increase in your hair’s natural growth rate...

1)Biotin supplements: These can be bought online, or in large pharmacies. Also known as Vitamin H, Biotin is a favorite among women wanting to grow their hair long as fast as possible, as many have seen results within a month of taking it (over at longhaircommunity.com). You may want to try Hair Formula 37, which has a Biotin component.

2) Rosemary scalp massage: You should massage your scalp at least once weekly, it’s relaxing and eases tension as well as increasing the blood flow to your hair’s follicles. I usually include the essential oil of Rosemary in my scalp massages – it has a strong scent similar to that of eucalyptus oil – as it really makes my scalp feel alive, as though I can actually feel the hair growing. You can leave it in overnight if you want, or shampoo it out, it’ll leave your hair scented and shiny.

3) Antioxidants: Drinking cranberry juice and green tea will boost your body’s immune system, keep your eyes and hair shiny, and it keeps your skin clear as well. Detoxifying your body is important for overall health, but in my experience it has also boosted my hair’s growth rate. Since I began having green tea after every meal and drinking cranberry juice every day, both my hair and nails began growing faster, probably from the detox I was giving my body.

Puffy Eyes... Why Why Why

Puffy Eyes can be caused by many factors. These include fluid retention, stress, allergies, hormone changes, and other factors as well. When we cry, it is often accompanied by swollen eyes. This is due to the fact that our body reacts to emotions and causes more blood to flow through the eyes which leads to swelling. Also the production of too many emotional tears can strain the eyes. Also, we get puffy eyes after sleeping. This can be caused by different factors such as too much sodium in a diet causing water retention, tossing and turning and not getting enough sleep, excessive drinking of alcohol, and others as well.
Puffy Eyes Treatments and Home Remedies
There are many ways to get rid of puffy eyes. The following list are only a few of the remedies and may not work for everyone:
Wash face with ice cold water
Limit sodium intake
Drink plenty of water to clean out your system
Place two slices of cool cucumber on the eyes for several minutes
Moisten two tea bags in cold water, chill them in the refrigerator and place them over closed eyelids for several minutes
For allergies and puffy eyes, find out the item causing the allergic reaction and minimize its use; doctors may also provide medication in the form of shots or prescription drugs
Cream for puffy eyes - Try a soothing eye cream with aloe and Vitamin E, which can be applied to the eyes.
Michele Danielle in Mt Kisco, NY has a great product that will also help!

Are The Corners Of Your Mouth Heading South?

The Depressor angluli oris is the muscle that pulls the corners of the mouth down, giving the patient a constant frowning appearance and increasing the appearance of marionette lines. These are the lines evident from the corners of the mouth to the chin area. When the depressor anglulorus is treated with BOTOX Cosmetic, it relaxes the depressor angluli oris muscle, allowing the levitor angluli oris muscle to raise the corners of the mouth, giving the patient a more pleasant appearance. This treatment, in combination with a soft tissue filler such as Juvederm or Radiesse, is very effective in eliminating the marionette lines.

Peri and "It's The Latest" in The New York Times Style Section!

Skin Deep Putting Vanity on Hold 08/12/18/fashion/18skin.htmlBy NATASHA SINGER Published: December 17, 2008 http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/18/fashion/18skin.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1....The advent of cosmetic Botox in 2002 posited the eradication of wrinkles as an affordable luxury amid a booming economy. But now, as the country plunges into recession, will financial hardship demote the pursuit of physical perfection? Will aesthetic values loosen up, allowing the occasional wrinkle to take on a certain measure of authenticity? “There comes a point when you are putting too much time and money into your vanity,” said Peri Basel, a practice consultant in Chappaqua, N.Y., who advises cosmetic doctors on marketing strategies. “For me, the vanity issue is: Where does it stop? If you are going for buttock implants, do you really need that?”Ms. Basel, the practice consultant, said she had amended her beauty routine, but had not relinquished her desire to manage her appearance.“Let’s face it, if you don’t look great, you are not going to your reunion and you are not going on Facebook,” said Ms. Basel, who blogs about beauty at itsthelatest.com. She described her cosmetic cutbacks: out went the personal trainer, in came the gym classes; antiwrinkle injections are a must, but major operations have gone by the wayside.Amy Krakow, the president of Propaganda Marketing Communications, has also made some concessions. She recently changed her hairstyle to include bangs — a camouflage technique that allows for fewer Botox injections, she said.“I’ll change my hair colorist,” Ms. Krakow said. “I’ll give up my crazy Japanese hair straightening. I’ll stretch out my Botox. I’ll even go for fewer plastic surgeries. But I do have to look good in my business. I look younger, therefore I can represent younger and hipper clients.”

SHORTER HAIR IS IN

Keep your hair between your chin and your shoulders. Side-swept bangs and hair no longer than your shoulders will take off years. Lipstick shade can age you... stay clear of matte lipstick and try creamier lipsticks or glosses. Stick to creamy blushes and shadows. Powder blushes and shadows tend to settle into your fine lines and wrinkles. Curl lashes after mascara has dried. Fine lining helps make sure tiny eyes look 10 times larger. Get your teeth lightened. Stand up straight. Get a good nights sleep.
